Start-Up Sri Lanka is an initiative by the Ministry of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology whose mission is to transform Sri Lanka through technology and entrepreneurship. They are working to support the tech community and accelerate the growth of Sri Lankan Start-Ups and freelancers.
This initiative was officially launched on the 14th of October 2019 at BMICH Lavender Hall by Hon Min Ajith P Perera, Minister of Digital Infrastructure and ICT at 2pm. Many Government officials including the Secretary and additional Secretary of the Ministry and entrepreneurs as well as a few Startup freelancers were present at the event.
NEFCICT was given an invitation to the Launch of the initiative as NEFCICT have been recognized addressing the mission of the initiative in the North and East in a well progressing and effective manner. The Federation was also given a face to face appointment with the Hon. Minister to discuss about the federation and to officially give an introduction. During which time a discussion about a few hindrances faced from the government sector in successfully achieving few project goals were discussed, and Hon. Minister advised his Secretaries to handle it and help the Federation in achieving the goals.
Also the Hon. Minister and his Secretaries congratulated NEFCICT on the efforts to empower North and East in regards to ICT and Technology after the Cruel War and devastation the North and East communities underwent for the last 3 decades. Also the minister promised to consider NEFCICT first when it comes to any Ministry/ Government related projects or initiatives to be launched in North and East. This was a very short but productive meeting/discussion with the Hon Minister and this would definitely help NEFCICT in its future endeavors.
Disrupt Asia 2019 Sri Lanka’s Premier Start-Up Conference and Innovation Festival organized by the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka since 2016 was held on 12th October 2019, Saturday at Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre. ICT Agency of Sri Lanka – The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka is the head ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) which is responsible for implementing all ICT related projects initiated by Government. It has a history of 12 years in guiding Sri Lanka in its journey through the ICT revolution. More than 4000 participants from various Start-Ups, Corporate Companies, Students as well as Entrepreneurs Attended the Event. The Event unlike the past had 15 Prominent speakers from the Global Start-Up Eco System as well as Silicon Valley.
North & East Federation of Chambers of ICT (NEFCICT) attended this conference this year with more than 50 Delegates, 10 From each Major Districts in North & East; Jaffna, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Ampara and Batticaloa respectively. All the delegates had a strong background in ICT/Tech, Start-Up or Media. Its also remarkable that Students from various sectors were also given an opportunity to attend this Premier Start-Up Conference as delegates of NEFCICT. NEFCICT is a non-profitable community-driven association aimed to empower the society and out region through assisting them in technology-related initiatives and affairs via paving the paths to attend to events and programs that help navigate our community towards an advancement and empowerment in regards of ICT, Technology and Entrepreneurship. NEFCICT also enables the community with the latest knowledge in technology and ICT from experts in the field with vast amount of critical experiences.
We were presented upon this opportunity to take our delegation to Disrupt Asia by the sponsorship awarded by the American Embassy in Sri Lanka in Collaboration with ICTA. NEFCICT along with our Delegations are extremely thankful for both the US Embassy as well as ICTA for making it possible for our Delegation to attend the event. With our delegation in Disrupt Asia 2019, our federation (NEFCICT) got a great chance to create meaningful connections and networking with Start-Ups, Entrepreneurs, Corporate Giants and media people both on the locality and from the Global Network.
